Stress is one of the great enemies we face in our lives. If we let it take over, before we know it we will suffer from certain symptoms that will play tricks on us in our day-to-day lives and even have long-term irreversible consequences.
Symptoms of stress
Stress can manifest itself through different symptoms depending on the person or the situations we face. Also, the intensity or frequency may vary.
On a physical level, it can affect our body causing us to notice any of the following symptoms:
– Accelerated or irregular heart rate.
– Altered breathing, shortness of breath or chest pain.
– Excessive sweating.
– Severe headaches, dizziness or tremors.
– Stomachache.
– Strong desire to urinate.
– Muscle tension that leads to contractures and back pain.
At a psychic level, different symptoms can be derived from stress by which our mind can be altered:
– Mood swings, tension, irritability and bad temper.
– Difficulty concentrating and making decisions.
– Sleep disturbances and excessive tiredness.
– Excessive worry
– Decreased memory and slow thinking.
– Fear or panic that can paralyze us.
– Violent attitudes.
– Depression, sadness, catastrophic thinking and desire to cry.
These symptoms can give rise to different behaviors, reactions and abnormal and unusual attitudes in our person such as an increase or decrease in food, drinking or smoking more frequently, nervous movements, sexual problems, character changes, nervous tics, among others, which in the long run they will take their toll on us.
