Stress is an inseparable part of our lives and that is why we must learn to channel and manage it so that it does not take over our lives.
On many occasions, being exposed to high levels of stress influences both our daily work and during sleeping hours, causing our rest to be less than optimal and our stress to increase.
Resting and sleeping well is essential since during the sleep cycle our brain efficiently organizes information, favoring homeostatic plastic changes that allow the organization of ideas.
While we sleep, stress levels are reduced, therefore, in adulthood, we must sleep an average of between 7 and 8 hours a day to acquire enough energy and have a good quality of life.
The sleep cycle is made up of three periods: light sleep, medium sleep, and deep sleep. During the latter, our body recharges so if it is interrupted we are not resting enough.
How to fall asleep effectively?
Since stress is part of our life, we must create or eliminate a series of habits from our routine to control it:
– Our bedroom should be dedicated solely to the sleep ritual, avoiding any type of distraction such as television, work or disorder. Dark and quiet should be the most relaxing place in the house.
– Before going to bed, we should not consume any type of stimulant. We have to eliminate caffeinated drinks, chocolate, certain soft drinks and even tobacco.
– We must not make great intellectual or physical efforts before going to bed, since excessive stimulation of the mind or body can make sleep disappear.
– It is important to be relaxed before going to bed, so a bath or a relaxing infusion can help to better fall asleep.
