When we are stressed for long periods of time, our body suffers a great imbalance that can lead to weight imbalances. Several studies determine that when we are subjected to intense levels of stress it is even easier to gain weight than to lose weight.
Stress causes our bodies to produce cortisol, the stress hormone. This hormone increases the blood sugar level and in turn decreases the defenses of the immune system causing the levels of fats, proteins and carbohydrates to multiply.
Causes why stress makes you fat
Slowing of metabolism: Cortisol causes our body to see its ability to cope with food intake reduced, causing the calories that we put into the body to not be processed and remain stored in the form of reserves to deal with stress.
Decreased basal metabolism: As we get older, our metabolism works differently. Between the ages of 30 and 40, the body begins to decrease the amount of energy that the body consumes for its organic functions, causing these to accumulate.
Anxiety for fattening foods: The body desperately asks for foods high in fats, carbohydrates and sugars that are completely harmful in abundance. In addition, we tend to ingest them more quickly and therefore in greater quantities.
Junk food: Apart from the fact that our body cries out for it, it is the best resource in periods of stress in which our time is reduced. Quick, cheap and rich is the best solution when we are stressed.
No time to exercise: Generally, if we are stressed it is because our workload is such that we lack hours to carry it out. For this reason, the time we use for ourselves is reduced and the little we have we use in other types of activities.
It is important that we make time for ourselves and not let stress take over our lives. Through numerous anti-stress therapies we can learn to control it and not change our lifestyle.
